That research is taking place in a hospital in London. We are merely do the donkey work, i.e finding the parasites and identifying them. It concerns Dientamoeba fragilis. I can't recall off the top of my head what the immunological explanation was, although it was quite interesting. But, it seems that some patients have a reduction in the PD symptoms when they are treated for D. fragilis and thei number of Df drop, or the organism is eradicated.

I stress that this is research. And that I am not actively involved in it. And that the clinical aspect of it is not taking place at the site where I work.

That is really interesting, most people with Parkinson's DO suffer from constipation...but most say that it is simply a symptom of advanced disease, but it could really be IBS with constipation caused by D. fragilis? Interesting. I'd love to hear more about this research; if you can put me in touch with someone who knows more I'd be very grateful! meredith.gilman@gmail.com

There will be a bit of delay with this info as I have my undergrad finals starting tomorrow and I am not going to be at work for another three weeks. After that I'll see what I can do for you.
